Are you ready to evict your mop and it’s dirty old bucket?

If you’re not quite at that stage, then you might very well find that you will be soon, due to quick and effective cleaning solution of the Vax bare floor pro . This steam mop that takes the hassle out of scrubbing your kitchen floors for hours and hours.

When looking for a steam mop you will see there are quite a number of machines available for you to choose from. This model of the Vax bare floor pro steam mop is different from most steam cleaners, down to the fact that it uses detergent and helps to freshen your home with a exotic smell.

On the upside, the detergent is a definite must for tiled floors in kitchens, where there’s been perhaps spillages of flour and other baking products. Using the traditional mop and bucket will just ingrain that into the grout, between the tiles.

On the downside, there’s the issue of the material that’s on your floors. For porous unglazed porcelain tiles, there is a problem with this type of flooring. The thing with porous floors is that they are designed to soak up water. It doesn’t matter if you’re using the best steam cleaner you can find…the steam will go down through the tiles, and the cloth won’t get a chance to pick it up with the dirt.

With that out the way, you’ll probably want to know about the detergent that’s used with the Vax steam mop.

What’s in the box ?

Here’s a quick breakdown of what you get in the box for the Vax bare floor pro:

  • 1 × Vax Bare Floor Pro Steam Mop + Detergent
  • 1 × Measuring jug
  • 2 × Microfibre Cleaning Pads
  • 1 × Carpet Glider
  • 1 × Vax Steam Detergent
  • 1 × Instruction manual
  • 1 × Guarantee registration card

With that out the way, let’s get into the steam mop review, so we can determine its quality.

Using  Vax Detergent to kill germs

This is an effortless part, well…once you get into the hang of it. For the first couple of times it can be a bit fiddly to get into the swing of it. The tanks are aligned side by side.

  1. One tank for your clean water
  2. The other tank holds your detergent.

When you’re using the vax bare floor pro, you will find that Vax have made the steam release in a  easy to reach location which is attached to the handle of the steam cleaner. You just press and hold that to release the steam.

One tip for using it is that if you find that you’re tiles are starting to get a bit more wet than you’d initially anticipated, is to switch the style you’re cleaning in.

Instead of holding the steam button down constantly as you clean, hold the button down when you push the mop forward, to release the steam into the floor, then when you pull the steam mop back towards you, release the steam button. This way you can release just enough steam when you first run over the surface, and then the microfibre cloth can pick it up on the way back.

You’ll find that if you use that technique, that once you’ve finished steaming your floor, it’s going to be shiny and dry. Something you will not be able to accomplish with a mop and a bucket of water. It can sometimes take hours to dry.

That’s why the Vax bare floor pro is such a hit with people. It’s fast and effective ease of use. It sometimes just takes a bit of getting used to. After all, when was scrubbing kitchen floors as easy to do.

Ease of use

This is a great feature that this steam mop has. It’s absolutely amazing at the speed it takes to do your floor. The 2 tanks are conveniently set up, just ready for the detergent to be added to one tank, and the other filled with water. In under a minute you’re ready to get going. By the time it’s been used for 10 minutes the kitchen floor is done. Sometimes even the bathroom floor too.

The bottom of the vax bare floor pro uses a Velcro to attach to the microfibre cloth to the base. Some people find this to be a disadvantage as it’s not the most reliable of ways to attach things. However, what you’ll find is that when you use the mop, the Velcro is so easy to work with that even if it does slip off occasionally, it’s simple to re-attach it to the machine. The storage is another function that adds to the machines versatility and here’s a quick tip for when you do store it.

When you read the instructions that come with the Vax  bare floor pro, you’ll notice it advises you not to store the cleaning detergent in the container. Instead it’s advised to throw away the unused detergent that’s left in the tank. You shouldn’t leave detergent or cleaner in either tank, is what you’re advised.

As the detergent is clean and yet to be disposed through to your floors, there’s no reason to throw it away. You can save yourself a pretty penny by removing the detergent tank and storing it upside down, instead of upright, as it would leak otherwise.

If you don’t want to leave the detergent in the tank, then you can also remove into a clean bottle for storage until you need it next time.

Usage of Vax Bare Floor Pro

You may be used to mopping the floor on a daily basis, however with steam mops, you really don’t have to. If you’re house has a lot of foot traffic then you may need to though. However, what you don’t need to do is use the detergent every day.

The detergent is handy for using once a week as it’s good for killing 99% of the harmful bacteria that’s around your home. That’s not just your kitchen either.
Carpets are horrific for storing bacteria. The only way before to get rid of all the major bacteria was to wash them. That’s one of the things that Vax is an expert on. Carpet cleaning. This model isn’t designed to thoroughly clean the carpets though. What it does is releases the detergent down to the very bottom of the carpet piles.

With the carpet glider and microfibre cloth attached, that will lift the bacteria, such as that from walking in your bare feet and the pets running through with mucky paws. That sort of dirt will be lifted onto the cloth.

Then it’s just a case of taking the pad off, and putting it through a washing machine, or hand-wash it. If you put it through the machine, don’t use detergent with it. That can harm the life you get out of each cloth. Just wash them with warm water alone as the detergent will still be in the cloth anyway. That’s going to help wash it without adding any more.

Vax Bare Floor Pro is Environmentally Friendly

Not every type of detergent is going to be environmentally friendly. In fact, there are some people who think that the only way to be sure is to only use water. Some Vax steam mops are there for that type of cleaning. However, with the twin tank detergent and water mix, the Vax steam mops are specifically engineered to be among the most environmentally friendly detergents on the market.

I have bought this Vax floor steam cleaner and am really happy with it. I have just one question though, when I use the carpet glider am I supposed to attach the velcro pad too or just use the carpet glider on its own.

Hi Alison,

Yes you can attach the Velcro pad and also use the coral pads for stubborn stains.

Thanks
